The courts now have new Wimbledon Ace terracotta and lawn green synthetic grass, Topset Grand Slam posts and competition nets which complement theexisting two courts.
The tennis courts were extensively damaged beyond repair in 2010 due to a colony of cockatoos attacking the surface.
Dungog and District Tennis Association and Dungog Shire Council agreed to terms in early 2012 after failed attempts to claim the damage through the council’s insurance company.
Brad Griffith from the association said the process of the re-surfacing went very smoothly with the council and the club.
“I would particularly like to thank general manager Craig Deasey, Shaun Chandler and council staff,” he said.
“The new synthetic grass is made in Australia by an Australian owned company Grassman from Sydney.
“The tennis club committee sourced four quotes and agreed on contracts from a local company, Power Court from Clarence Town to provide the re-surfacing, nets and posts.
“The club would like to forward a special thank you to Power Court’s owners Mark and Vanessa Keating for the resurfacing and their patience as they were involved in the process from the very beginning when we first approached the council.”
Craig Deasey thanked Brad and the committee for their hard work and fundraising to get to courts back into playable condition.
“This is certainly good for the future of tennis in Dungog,” he said.
Dungog Tennis Club has numerous social competitions available for their members and the wider community and the club would warmly welcome new players.
Mixed social competitions run Monday and Wednesday nights from 7.30 and the competition starts and finishes during the school term (ten or eleven weeks) but not into the holidays so you have a choice of how much tennis you would like to play.
“The night competition always involves great tennis, great conversations and each competition concludes with food, drinks and prizes,” Brad said.
“There is a ladies competition on Tuesday morning and again involves great tennis, great conversations and each competition concludes with food, drinks and prizes.
“There is also a newly started competition on Wednesday afternoon 4 to 5.30pm for primary and high school students.
“The tennis courts are also available for hire day or night.
