Eighteen of the 20 units in the facility were inundated with water from the April super storm.

One resident, Col Webb, died during the disaster.

Dismayed at the lack of information forthcoming, resident Jean Robertson organised a meeting with council officers at the facility on Monday.

“We just want to know what is going on,” she said.

“There are so many Chinese whispers going around about what is happening that I thought we should have a meeting to find out exactly what is going on.”

Steve Hitchens from council’s infrastructure and assets department said they are still waiting for a response from council’s insurance company State Wide Mutual.

“The contention is whether or not it was storm water or flood water,” he said.

“The insurers have requested another hydrologist report on the storm event and we are waiting on the outcome of that report. 

“We have had builders remove the flooring to allow the buildings to dry out property to prevent any mould or mildew problems.”

Mayor Harold Johnston also attended the meeting which was attended by the majority of Alison Court residents.

“Alison Court is our weeping sore,” he said.

“Everything else related to the storm event is coming together except this.

“I’ve never been without a home and I can’t imagine what that would be like.

“We will keep the residents up to date monthly with a newsletter, and of course if there are any new developments, immediately.

Mrs Robertson, who has been living at the motel since the event, said she just wants somewhere to call home.

“We aren’t that much further ahead but at least regular contact will be good,” she said.

“Even if something started happening tomorrow, it’s going to be at least four to six months before we can go back home.”

Two residents, Trevor Richardson and Joan Ford, did not have to leave their units as there were high enough out of the water’s reach.

There are 20 units in the complex and 17 residents are still living in temporary accommodation.
