This event took place on Saturday, June 27.
The hall has been named, ‘Krubi-Dawn’ in honour of Helen Egelton (whose Girl Guide name is Krubi) and Dawn Leak (past region leader), who have both been a huge support throughout the process in achieving Dungog’s own Girl Guide hall.
Dungog Girl Guides have been fundraising for the better part of 30 years to open their own hall.
Many members of the community contributed to the establishment of the hall in various capacities- building, landscaping, fencing, concreting, painting and plumbing- making it a true community endeavour.
The guides performed a beautiful rendition of ‘We are Australian’ (Bruce Woodley and Dobe Newton), and ‘Hey Jude’ by The Beatles.
Emma Turner accompanied them on the guitar.
Aimee Turner, Eve Rumbel and Molly Grant then performed a drumming composition.
Each of the girls received an honorary mug in celebration of the day.
Federal Member for Paterson Bob Baldwin joined in the celebrations and presented the unit with a new Australian flag.
The girl’s singing particularly pleased him.
Dungog Girl Guides would like to thank everyone in the community for their continued support over the years.
Girl Guides, both young and old, know that the determination of district leader Pat Simmons, along with leader Sarah Turner and unit helper Kay Edwards has been the true driving force behind the establishment of the hall.
