They were commandeered as part of a work for the dole initiative between Novaskill in Singleton, Jobfind and the State Emergency Service.
On the job trainer Michael Grothaus from Stroud said the men worked for 16 weeks and will gain a Certificate 11 in construction pathway.
“It’s an introduction to construction course with 12 modules which includes creating formwork, site readiness, actual construction and verbal communication,” he said.
“Having this certificate is a good platform for an employer to look at.
“They started in March and worked three days a week at the depot.
“Part of the course requirements was to complete two projects so they created a paved outdoor area out the back with a shade sail on top and a retaining wall out the front of the main building.
“Jobfind and the SES had a budget to supply the materials needed.”
Jamie Bidner said he enjoyed being onsite for the 16 weeks.
“I learnt a lot of skills and Michael said I had good ideas,” he said.
