While there appeared to be no hope in the initial days because all their equipment is made and imported from Europe, manager Greg Laidler has been sourcing good second hand machinery in Australia.

“All our machinery was totalled,” he said.

“We had just installed a new thicknesser one month before the floods hit.

“It cost $200,000 and we can’t get another one so we will just have try and repair it to get it going.

“We can’t get new stock of anything in a hurry so we just have to make do with good second hand models I am sourcing from timber mills around Australia.

“A sander arrived from Brisbane on Thursday and I am waiting to hear back about a moulder I found in Sydney.

“It’s the only one in Australia.

“We had two Weining moulders but a lot of timber factories are upgrading their equipment so we have been lucky to be able to source these.”

Part of the plant is now operating they were having their first glue session on Friday.

While they are only operating at 20 per cent capacity, they will still be looking at another four weeks to increase production and this will depend on sourcing equipment.

“All we can do is take one day at a time,” Greg said.

“All the fellas have kept working.  They aren’t in the timber industry at the moment, they are more like cleaners.

“But the owner Joe Glass came up and spoke to them and them the business will continue operating.

“That was certainly good news for the town.”
