Clarence Town Preschool director Rebecca Boland is one of seven NSW finalists in the Australian Child and Family Early Education Awards in the category of Director of the Year.

One hundred finalists were selected across four categories from over 1000 nominations received.
Ms Boland said she was humbled but also thrilled to think that what she does is recognised.
While still at school she decided she wanted to be an early childhood teacher.
“I knew I could make a difference to children at that age,” she said.
“When I completed my HSC I went straight to uni and did a bachelor of education specialising in early childhood.
“I tried primary school teaching for a short time but I wanted a hands-on level of engagement and started worked in long day centres in Newcastle.
“I spent several years as an adult educator and would come to Clarence Town preschool to observe teaching students.
“I used to say, I’m coming back here one day.”
And that she did and has been in the role of director for four years.
She loves the country atmosphere here and said there is always someone to lend a hand.
“Parents here take on many roles and they work hand-in-hand with the educators here,” Ms Boland said.
“They rally together and take a strong interest in the preschool.
“These awards are a great recognition for early childhood teaching and raises the profile of early education in a small town.”
The national winners of each category will be announced at the Australian Family Early Education & Care Awards gala event on Friday, June 19 and share in over $75,000 in prizes including $40,000 in training and professional development grants.
