Lara manager Kerri Wagner asked the school if the students could paint a mural on a 20-metre long brick wall leading to the garden.
Supervising teacher Sue Hodgins said being creative, altruistic and inspired, our students took up the challenge.
“The memory garden is a lovely, peaceful yet stimulating place for residents of the nursing home.
“The plantings have been carefully considered for their visual beauty with colours textures and forms and aromatic perfumes and culinary usefulness with herbs and vegies.
“The design process involved responding to the brief which was to create an engaging, aesthetically pleasing design, possibly based upon a vine or linking to the garden theme.
“The students participating in the second term developed the vine idea and decided the vine should become more dense, the colours more vibrant and the flowers larger and more bouquet-like as the wall progressed towards the garden gate.
“Term three and four students have been busy painting their designs along the wall with the beautiful colours they mixed from the paints supplied by Lara.
“The work is now complete and the project has been a great experience for the students and will be valued by the residents and visitors to Lara.”
The students volunteered to work on the mural during sport on Thursday.
Lara manager Kerri Wagner said the project with the art students has been a win win for everyone.
“Lara has now got a vibrant inviting walkway leading to our memory garden,” she said.
“Our residents loved watching the project unfold and delighted in seeing the students arrive and work and the students thoroughly enjoyed starting with a blank canvas and bringing it to life.
“ I would personally like to thank Sue Hodgins for her guidance with the design and her excellent supervision of the students.
“Even the weather was kind over many weeks so Sue must have special powers!
“On behalf of all the residents and staff at Lara, thank you.”
