Two-and-a-half years later she launched her new business SkyeHigh Cakes & Creations with her first catering venture being the Dungog Festival held in August last year.
“I made Ariah’s first birthday cake with fondant and it turned out really well,” Skye said.
“I was just doing cakes for family and friends and they were all raving about them so it was at the back of my mind to start my own business.
“I moved back to familiar area and a few more people were asking me to make cakes so I thought the time was right.
“I’ve always loved cooking and my mum was a good cook so it must run in the family.”
Skye’s first venture was at the long table dinner at the festival where she cooked pumpkin and sweet potato soup and a sticky date pudding for the dessert.
“I also made the canapés for the green gala film opening on the Friday night as well as a market stall over the weekend.
“The stall was very successful and I sold out of cupcakes.”
While Skye has been busy with other work, she is a casual teacher at Dungog High School, she is looking forward to concentrating more on her business.
She is currently using the commercial oven at Dungog Golf Club so she meets Dungog Council’s food and safety requirements.
“Stroud girl Kristy MacIntyre (nee Harvey) helped me cater at the festival and she is lined up to help me again this year,” Skye said.
“I’m very excited to be a part of the festival again and hopefully it is an ongoing event.
“I have always dreamt of one day owning my own café/dessert bar and am now one step closer to making this happen.
“The best part is seeing a smile on the face of those devouring my delicious creations.”
Skye’s lines include speciality cakes, cupcakes, lolly buffets and raw vegan treats.
