Fire fighter Martin recently applied when a unique opportunity arose after decisions made by the Minister for Police & Emergency Services Stuart Ayres and Fire & Rescue NSW Commissioner Greg Mullins creating 40 new fire fighter positions to be placed in the Sydney Metropolitan area.
These positions were open only to serving retained fire fighters appointed to Fire & Rescue NSW.
Fire fighter Martin applied along with over 1500 applicants for the positions and after a gruelling merit based selection process he was fortunate in gaining one of the first 20 positions.
Martin had transferred to Dungog Fire & Rescue about 12 months ago bringing the station's numbers to full complement of 12.
Fellow fire fighters said he was a great asset, a great team member and all round top bloke.
“We are all sad to see him go however we do wish him well with his new career,” a Fire & Rescue Dungog spokesman said.
Martin will attend the Fire & Rescue NSW College in Alexandria and complete a shortened six-week course before being appointed to a station.
