On the final day of competition, Redman, who turns 20 next Tuesday, ended up in hospital with a lacerated liver for five days and has been unable to do any physical activity for three months.
But he was well enough to attend the presentation in Sydney on the weekend where he received his championship award.
He was coming off his 2013 win in the expert under 21 class when the Australian Off Road committee decided to make two other classes for the 16-19 years’ riders.
“I decided to compete in the expert 16 to 19 years class this year before moving up to the pro class,” he said.
“I only did the NSW cross country/sprint and enduro series as I couldn’t afford to do the Australian series as I would have needed to have several days off work as the events are all over Australia.”
The competition runs from March to September with Brad competing at Bulahdelah, Portland, Tarcutta and Denman.
He was having a great race in Denman on September 20 when he crashed on the last lap.
As he was slowly riding back to the finish, he was overtaken and ended up coming second.
“I didn’t think I would get the championship, but they went back on points and I had enough to win,” Redman said.
“I wanted to get a few years racing experience before moving up into the Pro-E2 class next year.
“This class is the most competitive.
“It has Australia’s best enduro riders in there with the likes of Toby Price, Chris Hollis and Daniel Milner.”
Redman’s sponsors include Glen and Alyson Charlton from Barrington Trail Bike Adventures, Newcastle KTM, Dungog Tyre Service, Metzler Tyres, Motorex Oils, Lusty Industries and Scott MX.
