She announced yesterday that work would soon begin to improve road alignment and the safety of road shoulders at Carmichaels Creek, Seaham.
“The NSW government has provided $1.45 million as part of the Hunter Infrastructure and Investment Fund to increase road safety, reduce ongoing maintenance costs and extend the life of this key road,” Ms Parker said.
“This improvement work realigning Carmichaels Corner will reduce the likelihood of crashes.
“Travel lanes and road shoulders will also be widened as part of the work.”
Port Stephens Council is carrying out the upgrades, which are expected to be complete by February if weather conditions allow.
Ms Parker said the upgrades were part of a $20 million commitment to improve the road between Raymond Terrace and Dungog.
Clarence Town Road will remain open during work with a reduced speed limit in place.
Signs will be in place to alert road users to changed traffic conditions.
