The Dungog Festival commences on Thursday night next week with a spectacular dinner when Dowling Street will be transformed into a giant outdoor dining room hosting over 200 guests.
Showcasing fresh produce and wines from the Hunter region and the Dungog community garden, the Long Table Dinner will be delivered from local soils to the plate.
To add a dash of celebrity, My Kitchen Rules (MKR) contestants Carly and Tresne (nee Middleton) Hart, will prepare a spectacular dessert to top off the feast.
The girls, who are soon launching their own series of Hunter Valley food and wine tours, will complete the dinner with a raspberry and rosewater bavarois with a rose petal praline, orange meringue and pistachio crumb, as featured on the popular reality television show.
Tresne, who grew up in Clarence Town and attended Dungog High School, was invited to do one of the meals by festival producer Lex Lindsay.
“We thought we would do the dessert we cooked on MKR as it was very popular,” Tresne said.
“We are going to cook it down at my mum’s place in Clarence Town where they filmed our instant restaurant for the show.
“It will all be prepared, in the glasses, transported in eskys and we will just have to put the finishing touches on it before it is served.
“I am thrilled we have been asked to do this.
“Growing up in Clarence Town and going to high school in Dungog, I really do have a real affiliation with this area.”
Fresh produce for the dinner is being provided by local suppliers Bunna Banoo Olive Grove, Fosterton Farm Bakery and Destiny Haven as well as the community garden at Dungog Public School and local farm gardens.
Other featured restaurants serving up dishes include local favourites Chillbillies, the Tall Timbers, Rattler’s Restaurant, Clarence Town Cottage Café and Clarence Town Bakery.
The Dungog Festival will be held from August 28 to 31 and will showcase Australian and international films, with a program of food, music and community events providing a complete cultural experience in the beautiful surrounds of the Dungog Shire.
