The 52-year-old man, who teaches at the Riverina Institute TAFE in Wagga Wagga, has been charged with six counts of indecent assault and six counts of common assault. He is accused of groping and shoving the students, among other actions.

The three alleged victims were in the teacher's class when he allegedly assaulted them  in separate incidents in March and April.

One girl was 15 years old at the time while the other two girls were 16 years old.

The child abuse squad has been working on the case with local police for weeks.

The Riverina Institute runs tertiary and secondary education courses in a range of industries including engineering, farming and hospitality.

A spokesman for the NSW Department of Education said the individual charged had been a part-time teacher but was no longer employed by the Riverina Institute.

"Student wellbeing is a high priority for TAFE NSW and Riverina Institute," he said, adding both organisations were working with the police.

"The individual has been placed on the not-to-be employed list during this time."

The teacher was arrested by appointment at the Holbrook police station on Tuesday morning.

He appeared at Wagga Wagga Local Court and was granted bail. The matter was adjourned until September 10.
