This will be the first time since its inception in 1978 it has been held in the area.
Event co-ordinator Trent Lean said Dungog Motorcycle Club’s involvement came about after a very successful Australian Off Road Championship round we held at Dungog showground in 2012.
“That event was on a smaller scale but after its success we were approached by Motorcycling Australia to host this year’s A4DE,” Trent said.
“The planning of this event started in January 2013 with a letter to Forestry Corporation of NSW who were in favour of the idea and it snow-balled from there.
“Preparations are now nearly complete for the enduro to be staged at Riverwood Downs, starting on August 12.
“With 230 competitors already entered and some of the best riding country in Australia, this year’s event is sure to be one for all ages.”
The prestigious and high profile off road event is on track to be one of the best with the motorcycle industry and local community rallying around the event and an impressive list of competitors from all states and territories as well as New Zealand and America set to do battle for the most important race in the off-road racing calendar.
This years’ event will see the riders and teams based at Riverwood Downs Resort with the entire course branching out from the resort.
The trails in the area are a great mix of dirt and terrain with plenty of challenges to keep the riders on their toes and determine the best of the best.
Yamaha Motorsport manager Ray Howard said Yamaha Australia is again proud to be behind the A4DE.
“This event has long been the pinnacle of off-road motorcycle events in Australia and we have worked closely with event organisers to ensure that 2014 edition lives up to that billing,” he said.
“Having the resort as the base for riders and teams will make for a great atmosphere and the final moto takes place right in the back yard of where all the competitors will be staying.
“We look forward to a fantastic event.”
The first Australian Four Day Enduro was run back in 1978 and this year marks the 36th consecutive running of the marque race.
Competitors will race over four days with a range of trail sections as well as numerous special tests throughout each day before the final motocross moto on Saturday, August 16 to determine class and outright winners.
“Our aim is to produce an event that the riders will talk about in years to come,” said Trent Lean.
“There is some spectacular riding in this area and the local community has been very enthusiastic about hosting the event so we just hope the weather is on our side and the week will produce some great action.
“We have also been fortunate to work alongside some great people and companies.
“Bruce Kearney in particular has done a mountain of work to ensure the riders and their crew have a great time in our region.
“The NSW Enduro committee has also put countless hours into organising the event and to have Yamaha on board as a major sponsor and assisting us has been great.
“When the A4DE was held in Portland NSW in 2010, Lithgow council estimated $2.25million was injected into the local economy.
“With more riders at this year’s event and all accommodation venues filling fast I’m sure our region will fare well.
“There are still some things to attend to but we will have everything in place well before the event and hope everyone enjoys their stay in the area.”
Dungog Motorcycle Club will be well represented with 15 club members competing, many of them for the first time.
“It’s not every day the A4DE comes to your home town so you might as well make the most of the opportunity,” said Phillip Parish.
Nick Lean and Brad Redman have been chosen to represent NSW in the state team challenge while Jacob Peacock will represent the ACT.
“Like any sport representing your state is a great honour and Dungog Motorcycle Club would like to congratulate the boys on their selection and wish them well,” Trent said.
“Nick has also been selected as first reserve for the Australian team going to the World 6 Day Enduro to be held in Argentina in November, another great honour.”
