The last time these two teams met, Valentine came away with a 2-0 win, but they had their work cut out for them this time around.
However Dungog came through their top-of-the-table clash with Valentine with a thrilling 2-0 victory in front of a good crowd of family and friends.
Valentine kicked off first and straight away both teams were out firing.
Most of the first half was played in Dungog’s territory with Valentine controlling the play, but superb keeping from Maddy Wilton kept them at bay.
Dungog had the opportunity to put first points on the board with a penalty shot awarded and Shellie Reed stepped up to take the kick but was unfortunate enough to shoot wide and hit the post, missing the goal.
After that, both teams were back on the chase trying to put first points on the board.
Dungog got lucky with another penalty awarded five minutes later, Rachel Williams took the shot and landed it in the back of the net.
This took the score to 1-0 at half time.
Early in the second half, Megan Williams played the ball back to Shellie off the kick-off for her to send it down to our forward Sam Simmonds who was waiting to receive the ball.
After a short scuffle with a Valentine player, Sam managed to take a shot, landing another goal.
This was the only goal landed in the second half but it wasn't for Valentine’s lack of trying.
They had numerous shots at goals but due to Dungog’s defensive skills and our goalie playing at a top level, Valentine didn't manage to score the entire game.
This win for the team puts Dungog in outright first place on the ladder.
The Royal Hotel’s best and fairest award went to Karlia Woods who had another strong game in attack and defence again this week and the players’player award went to stand-in goalie Maddy Wilton who had a solid game.
This weekend Dungog will take on neighbouring side Clarence Town Coyotes at Barnes Oval which is our last home game for the season and will be your last chance to see the ladies strutting their skill’s on the soccer field, with the match kicking off at 10am.
