The Dungog Boomerangs bounced back from last week’s shock 3-2 defeat to Morisset Strikers with a commanding 8-0 defeat of Maitland Magpies played in freezing conditions at Fieldsend Oval on Friday night.

The match was played in below zero conditions with a number of players missing due to snow field-trips or work commitments.
Dungog started the match strongly with Michael Atkins combining well with Rohan Mate down the left flank to fashion the first real opportunity of the match.
It wasn’t long until Dungog made serious inroads into the match with Dominic Waters scoring a glorious header very reminiscent of Robin Van Persie’s goal at the World Cup.
Moments later Michael Anderson doubled the score with a delightful run through midfield and a cool finish that left the goal keeper beat.
Zachary O’Hara-Smith and Shane Zanardi had a strong game at centre back with the two of them combining well to keep the Maitland strikers to a limited number of opportunities.
Scott MacFarlane and Jarrod Keller had some surging runs forward on the right hand side with the latter unlucky not to score with a rocket of a shot.
Dungog went into half-time holding a commanding 2-0 lead.
Scott Gardner had an impressive return in goals after the last four weeks touring the countryside in Europe.
The second half started strongly for Dungog with the players pressing higher up the pitch.
It wasn’t long before Geraldinho scored the first of his hat-trick of goals for the match with a divine chip over the Magpies’ keeper.
Shortly afterwards Dominic Waters added to his tally with some impressive footwork which bamboozled the keeper.
As the match wore on the temperature continued to drop however it wasn’t long until Mark Copus tried his best at warming up the crowd with a sensational overhead kick from half-way that bounced over the goalkeepers head and into the back of the net.
This week’s man of the match award went to goalkeeper Scott Gardner.
The final score saw Dungog run out deserved 8-0 winners with another huge match coming on Friday night at Barnes Oval against Kahibah FC.
