“I won the singles in 2012 for the first time, but didn’t get to the final last year,” John said.
“I’ve beaten Ken on a couple of occasions but this is the first time we have met in a singles final.
“The game only took two hours when the last single’s game I played was three and a half.
“Ken didn’t play all that well while I did and the final score was 31-5.”
His late father Kevin was never able to beat Ken, so Jon is thrilled to have his name up on the board for a second time.
Ken has won the singles 19 times, the first time in 1982.
He won consecutively for seven years from 1986, missed a year when Malcolm McDonald won, and then again 11 times in 12 years.”
In congratulating Jon on his victory, Ken was gracious in defeat stating that the 31-5 scoreline was the “biggest hiding I’ve ever had in 44 years of bowls”.
