When Broc Hunt qualified for four events at the Combined High Schools state swimming competition earlier in the month, he went to Homebush with one aim – to try his best.

And he did just that, achieving a personal best (PB) time in every race, including the heats.
The 12-year-old Dungog High School student has had a sensational season to say the least.
During the current swimming club season, Broc established new time standards on nine occasions.
He broke records in all freestyle and breaststroke distances as well as lowering the 4x33m medley record.
After breaking four records at his school carnival, Broc competed in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 100m breaststroke events at Homebush, qualifying for the finals in each one.
“I was hoping to come in the top five in each event I qualified for,” Broc said.
“In the finals I came fourth in both the 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke event so I was really happy.
“I also made the finals for the 50m and 100m freestyle races and came sixth and seventh.
“My favourite event is the 100m breaststroke so I was really happy to come fourth there and in the 200m freestyle I took 23 seconds off my best time.”
While Broc is an exceptional swimming and trains hard with coach Peter Maytom at Dungog pool, he is also a very talented footballer.
He was also selected in the Knights under-12 representative rugby league squad for a one-off game against Ipswich.
Unfortunately the game was held at the same time as the state swimming competition, so a family discussion resulted in him forgoing the football.
“I would have liked to have done both but I couldn’t and I’m really happy with how I went at Homebush.”
