Dungog played Cessnock and the boys took to the field with much excitement.
Jayden Duck, Jai Duck and Cooper Power tackled well all game with the support of Jayse Clements.
Duke Davies, Jaxon O’Conner and Cooper Power played great in the attacking line running the ball hard up against the opposition.
This team is showing great skills from a young age.
It was a great game to watch.
Under-8s maroon
We would like to thank James Lovegrove and the parents of this team for the great understanding shown when they all travelled to Greta Braxton to only find the ground closed.
We apologise once again for this.
Under-8’s gold
Dungog played Greta Branxton with a player short and their first game without the coach on the field.
The boys played a strong game against a Greta team having the luxury of reserves.
In the end these two advantages were the difference.
Isaac Edwards scored two great tries in his first game.
Riley Cummings and Jaxon Davies ran straight and hard all day.
Zac Ribbons and Jackobi Haigh tackled anything that moved.
Blade Sturgess playing an age up and the littlest on the field took on the bigger boys all game.
Jack Miller won the jersey scoring a good try and making a lot of tackles with his partner in crime, Tommy Taleski-Williams being away.
Under-9s
Dungog played Thornton/Beresfield and took to the field with only 10 players.
The whole team struggled a little in the first half scoring only one try and letting in three, but in the second half they picked back up and ran in five tries and only letting in one.
Coach Kenny Gorton is extremely proud of how they pulled themselves back together.
They showed not only to their supporters but to themselves that when they dig in and play as a team, they can play some very exciting footy.
Try scorers were Cooper Gorton 3, Tom Lovegrove 2 and Fynley Stevenson 1.
We have the next two weekends off, then we are back at it again at my favourite place, West Wallsend.
Have a safe holiday.
Under-10
Dungog played Cessnock and were defeated 50-0.
Under-12
Dungog played Kurri Kurri and were defeated 20-4.
A slow start by the boys again gave the opposition an early lead.
A couple of soft dummy half tries put Kurri in front 10-0 lead before the boys started to play some footy.
It took some great front on tackling by a couple of the smaller boys in Callum Hooke and Riley Bashford to stop Kurri going forward.
This finally lead to Dungog having some possession and some hard running by Hunta Saunders saw him rewarded with a well-deserved try.
Kurri then put on another couple of quick tries through some poor defence.
The last 10 minutes of the game was all Dungog with the boys throwing the ball around in the back line and unlucky not to score.
With a bit more respect for ball possession and more confidence in their defence we should see some results going our way.
Under-13s
Dungog were to play Cessnock but received a forfeit.
Under-14s
Dungog played West Newcastle and won 30-6.
Playing with only 11 men including two under-13 players Jack Walters and Alex Rooke, Dungog posted its second win with a very strong performance.
The boys once again played well as a team encouraging each other in both attack and defence showing great team spirit.
New fullback Jake Bannister returned the ball strongly after each kick and made up the numbers in the backline on each attacking play.
Mitchell Grey led the boys well, showing the way with his usual strong defence.
Continual line breaks by forwards Sam Thornton, Jake Eyb and Jackson Dew had Dungog on the front foot all game.
The team will be short of players this year, but this week’s display showed great determination and team spirit thanks once again to the under-13 players.
Tries this week scored by Jake Bannister, Jack Walters, Nathan Ross, Jake Eyb and Jackson Dew. Mitchell Grey scored twice and Cameron McLean kicked one goal.
Under-15s
Dungog played North Belmont and won 32-6.
Sporting a full team Dungog was keen to improve on last week’s results in front of a home crowd. This didn't take long to start with Dungog making the kick off and Belmont immediately knocking the ball on.
After winning the scrum this put Dungog in a good position down the field and Brayden Miners was able to push his way through Belmont's good-sized defence to score his first try very early in the game.
Bryson Braham easily converted the try and this was to become a good point scoring combination throughout the game.
Dungog backed this up with a good, fast set with Belmont having to defend well to contain them.
When defending Dungog had to do the same as Belmont was fielding a reasonably sized team, but strong tackling around the lower half saw Dungog keep them from breaking through.
When back in possession of the ball some handy ground was made with Steve Muddle making a good break getting the ball back to halfway.
Belmont was in possession again when a dropped ball saw Jake Devon scoop it up and make some ground, later he was able to repeat this and put Brayden Miners in another good position to see him score his second try under the posts.
When the ball made it out to the centres Jack Thompson was able to gain some valuable ground and from one of these runs, with quick accurate passes from Cody Argent and a run around move with Bryson, saw Bryson score a try.
All the boys were playing exceptionally well and this was evident in their defensive game, keeping Belmont from scoring very close to line on more than one occasion.
Belmont decided to take a penalty kick with about five minutes left in the first half.
This put them on the score board with two points. They followed this up with a good attacking set but Dungog never faltered and forced them to make an error with the ball being passed out over the sideline.
A kick for touch saw Dungog 20 metres out from the line and Brayden Miners made another charge for the line however Belmont North was able to hold him up and prevent the try.
But quick, safe hands got the ball out to Steve Muddle who managed to break through and score just before the bell for half time.
The second half picked up where the first left off with Belmont kicking off and Dungog attacking hard.
All players were working hard and a special mention to Sam Russell who made some good hard runs against the opposition. Dungog got very close to the line again after strong runs by Steve Muddle and Spencer Keating but unfortunately a dropped ball just short of the line gave possession back to Belmont.
This soon turned around though when a penalty against Belmont close to the line put Dungog in a handy position once more.
Big M made the most of this opportunity and forced his way over the line to score another try. Dungog still had to work hard to keep Belmont from scoring and with their consistent defence managed to do this, holding up a player on the line to stop a try.
Belmont continued to make ball handling mistakes which Dungog made advantage of.
Another dropped ball from them gave Dungog another chance which they grabbed, this time Cody Argent was able to get over to score a try with Bryson making another good conversion.
By this stage of the second half Dungog was showing slight signs of fatigue and had a few minor injuries, but they were certainly not waning in their enthusiasm and were still committing 100 per cent to the game.
The only other points that the opposition were able to score came when they passed the ball out wide and broke through our defence to score an unconverted try.
When the fulltime hooter went Dungog had scored six tries and converted four, Belmont scored one try and had a successful penalty kick, making the final score 32-6.
Congratulations to all the team, everyone had a good game, both in attack and defence with very few errors made in what was a fast moving game.
Coaches and parents were very proud of your efforts and conduct in the game.- Warren Thompson, manager.
