For a team that prides itself on making Bennett Park a graveyard for visiting teams over the years Dungog have put in two disappointing efforts in front of its home crowd.
After last week’s win against Lambton it appeared the Warriors were starting to come together as a side but on Sunday for the most part seemed flat and uninterested.
With showers sweeping the ground throughout the match it was always going to be dificult playing conditions but both teams controlled the ball well during the early exchanges.
The Magpies were the first to trouble the scorer when their lock crashed over following a penalty to the visitors.
The conversion was successful for the Terrace to take a 6-0 lead.
The condititions were certainly stifling the Dungog backline with the outside backs not getting much of a chance to show what they are capable of.
The Dungog forwards inability to match it with the Magpies forwards also did not help the Warriors backline the freedom they enjoyed the previous week against Lambton.
A further converted try to the Terrace 10 minutes from half time had them going to the break with a 12-0 lead.
The second half got of to the worst possible start for the home side with the Magpies hooker diving over from dummy half for a converted try three minutes after the restart.
Jackson Bell gave the Warriors something to cheer about when he took an intercept and raced 80 metres to cross for a converted try.
Any thoughts the Warriors had about staging a come back quickly dissipated when they allowed the ball to go dead from the kickoff.
From the ensuing set of six the Magpies went over for another converted try to extend its lead to 24-6 with still 30 minutes to go.
To the Warriors credit they didn’t throw in the towel and matched it with the Terrace for the rest of the game.
The highlight of the second half for Dungog happened when Luke Rits playing his first game in all age capped of a solid debut when he carried a couple of defenders over the line to score and leave the final score 24-10 to the visitors.
Best for Dungog were Jason Clements and Scott Robson whle the pick of the backs were Lee Nevin and Jackson Bell.
Off the reserve bench Jack Robards had his best game for Dungog since making the switch from soccer and is getting better each game.
Luke Rits on debut shows a lot of promise and Luke Hughes was also solid.
RSL best forward Jason Clements, RSL best back Lee Nevin, players’ player Jack Robards, Ray’s reserve Luke Hughes.
Dungog have next week off due to Easter then they play University on Sunday, April 27 at University Oval No 1.
The following week Friday night football returns to Dungog when they play Waratah Mayfield at Bennett Park at 7.30pm.
