Joan had been known to say that it would be unreal to have Toni Childs sing at her 50th birthday.
Friend Marion Stuart said Joan has been a big fan of Toni’s for years, going to any of her concerts when she played in Newcastle.
“Her husband Phil and her four grown up children and partners decided that they should surprise Joan, bring Toni Childs to Main Creek and make this happen,” Marion said.
“Was Joan surprised, you bet.
“Toni arrived under the cover of darkness and launched into singing happy birthday in her big fabulous voice which Joan instantly recognised, and of course burst into tears.
“Toni went on to sing three songs, accompanied by two guitarists, one of whom was her husband Mike.
“Toni Childs was in great voice and such a lovely and gracious lady staying awhile chatting, having photos taken and signing autographs.
“She and the crew stayed the night in Main Creek at the Bower Retreat.
“What a husband and family to give such a generous and amazing 50th birthday present!”
