Member for Upper Hunter George Souris said the work will include installing new girders and bridge decking on the Dungog side of the bridge to strengthen the bridge approaches.
“Roads and Maritime Services sought community feedback about the timing of the bridge closures in recent weeks,” Mr Souris said.
“Community feedback was received on truck detour routes, signs and safety measures during the closures and this has been incorporated into project planning.
“The feedback will also help Roads and Maritime finalise details for the 16 day closure which is planned to allow for more extensive work to take place in late May, weather permitting.”
During this closure, strengthening work on the remainder of the bridge roadway will take place and the bridge ends and supports will be upgraded.
“The work will help reduce future maintenance activities and costs, including bridge closures, and will support the ongoing social and commercial development of Dungog and the Upper Hunter region.
“Work will be carried out between 6am and 6pm this Saturday and Sunday and vehicles and pedestrians will not be able to travel over the bridge until work is completed on Sunday, weather permitting.
“Detours will be in place for motorists via Horns Crossing Road at Martins Creek and Gresford Road at Vacy.
“Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and obey all signs.
“Traffic control and signs will be in place to direct motorists.
