Star Struck is a showcase of dance, drama and music performed by students from kindergarten to year 12 from public schools in the Hunter Central Coast Region.
This year’s event will be held on June 13 and 14 and brings together students from very small primary schools, large comprehensive high schools and from diverse backgrounds.
It took the Dungog High School student five years of perseverance to get the feature artist gig last year after getting to second and third rounds in previous years.
Like all young girls, the Stroud teenager started singing with a hairbrush for a microphone at an early age, but got serious when she turned eight.
“I went with my family to the hotel for a karaoke night and I realised I could sing,” said the 16-year-old.
“I started having guitar lessons when I turned 12 with Steve Munro from Poley’s Place at Gloucester where I was invited to sing.
“I’ve never had a singing lesson but my music teacher [at Dungog High School] Mrs Danvers helps me out.”
Amber started off as a dancer in Star Struck while at Stroud Public School.
“When I got to high school I auditioned every year for a soloist position as I was too loud to sing with the choir but was thrilled to get through last year.
“I had a great time last year and had three solo performances.
“This year I will be singing These Boots Are Made for Walking and Firework in the finale.
“For the auditions I was given three songs producers thought would be good for my voice and I could choose another two.
“After last year I was fairly confident I would get through, but you never know.”
This is Amber’s final year at school and she is unsure what she wants to do in the future.
“I don’t want to sing full-time but I know it will always be a part of my life.”
