FOGGLLS member Susan Filson said: “One of the most joyful sounds we hear after rain is the frogs chorusing their happiness of the shower”.
“Since white settlement in Australia, there have been many articles warning of the plight of Australia’s frog population,” she said.
“Several species have become extinct or are facing extinction. Up until now, no systematic investigation has been made of the habitats in the Stroud district,” Ms Filson said.
Over the past few years, a group of about 20 people descend on Stroud for four nights a month for six months. Just after nightfall they leave the town to survey watercourses in the Stroud district and beyond.
Dr Arthur White, of Biosphere Environmental Consultants Pty Ltd, and his team is studying frog habitats. As well as frogs they encounter a lot of nocturnal animals that many people do not get the chance to see.
At 5:45pm next Monday at Stroud Branch Library Dr White will alert you to the wonderful night life of Stroud.
His illustrated hour talk, during which he would welcome questions, would be followed by a cuppa and a chat, Ms Filson said. Children are especially welcome.
Entry is by gold coin donation. Book at the Library or contact Sue on 4994 9163.
