Warriors hold opponents to nil in impressive win

30 Jun, 2010 10:38 AM
However the Warriors put on one of their most complete performances of the season to trounce third place Swansea 38-0, despite having only three fit reserves for much of the game.

Dungog’s defence throughout the game was of the highest nature and the only time Swansea could approach the Dungog line was on the back of a penalty or Dungog mistake.

The intensity resulted in good field position that eventually allowed Ash Evans to plow over from dummy half.

A quick note on the performance of Ashley (this is a player’s perspective view of his game) he was an inspiration to all people on the field.

Ash was forced to play long minutes due to injuries and at several stages through the match appeared busted but managed to pull off several try saving plays to help keep Dungog’s line intact.

A beautiful rehearsed move led to the second try to Lee Nevin, which was soon followed by a head-scratching decision five minutes later to send Lee to the sin bin.

Despite being one short, Dungog continued to threaten the Swansea line and scored again before the break through Jackson Bell to take a 16-0 half time lead into the break.

Brad Johnson, who was captain on the day as Dave Henderson was not playing, scored the first try of the second which was followed by tries to Terry Drinkwater, Brad and Jackson. Each scored their second try of the day to give the final scoreline of 38 nil.

Each week it would seem that Dungog is growing as a unit and gets increasingly hard to single out certain players as being better than others.

Along with Ash Evans the entire side was quite exceptional.

The side also welcomed former junior Nathan Hobbs for his first game of rugby league in 7 years, when he last played for Dungog.

He showed glimpses of he is capable of and will be valuable in Dungog’s run to the playoffs.

RSL best forward and players’ player Ash Evans, RSL best back Lee Nevin and Ray’s reserve Scott Fisher.

The team thanks Bob Campbell for driving the team to their away games. It doesn’t go unnoticed and the team is very grateful to Bob who is one of the teams biggest supporters.

Next weeks game is on Sunday at 3pm at home against Gateshead.
