The Dungog Warriors earned the two points on Saturday to register their seventh win of the season after a less than inspirational performance to beat Kotara 30-10.
Both sides showed signs of rust after missing several weeks of play due to rain.
The game was very scrappy and both sides failed to show any signs of rhythm.
The Dungog side opened the scoring after 12 minutes through an intercept by Dave Taylor, the RSL best back, who was able to score under the posts.
Kotara leveled the score at 6 all after 26 minutes and at that stage it appeared that Kotara would be no pushover despite the two sides difference on the ladder.
Dungog did manage to take a halftime lead with a try from the players player on the day Chris Evans. Halftime score Dungog 10 Kotara 6.
Following the break Kotara was again able to draw level following which the game turned into a grind in which either side had the opportunity to take the lead.
On the back of a Brad Johnson bust, Chris Evans was able to grab his second for a 14-10 lead.
This seemed to be all Dungog needed as the final quarter of the game was dominated by the Warriors as three more tries were scored by Dan Rumbel, Chris Evans (his third for the day) and Dave Taylor (second try of the day).
The final try was scored on full-time and the conversation was taken by part-time goal-kicker Dan Foot, who made no mistake to give Dungog the final score of 30-10.
The score-line flattered Dungog as they struggled all game to get into any groove.
The whole pack played well on the day and is becoming obvious that each forward knows his role on the team. Best in the backs were Dave Taylor and Chris Evans.
RSL best Back David Taylor, RSL best forward Kieran Hinton, players’ player Chris Evans and Ray’s reserve Dan Rumbel.
And congratulations to Lee Nevin for playing in his 50th game for the Warriors.
