The Dungog Warriors finished the regular season with a commanding win 56 - 22 win over Swansea.
With Dungog having secured the minor premiership weeks ago and Swansea out of the hunt for the final there was little on the line as Dungog sort to find form before the finals.
The game also marked the celebration of Brad Johnson’s 100th game in Dungog’s colours.
If nothing else the game was highly entertaining as Swansea were prepared to try the unconventional to upset the Dungog defence.
It was appropriate that Dungog’s try scoring started with Brad Johnson and it could be seen early that he was ready for a big game.
Jackson gave Dungog an early 10 nil lead when he crossed shortly after.
It wasn't going to be easy for Dungog as Swansea struck back to take a 12-10 lead on the back of two short kicks.
Dungog hit back strongly and scored three tries to Kieran Hinton, Chris Evans and Brad scored his second. Dungog took a 26-12 lead into half time.
On the back of another kick Swansea struck first in the second half and appeared ready to make it a contest.
However Dungog were able to score the next three tries to eliminate any chance of an upset. The tries were scored by Jackson who scored his second for the day, Terry Drinkwater and Chris Evans also scored his second and the score was 40-16.
Swansea was able to score their final try before Dungog scored three more unanswered tries to David Taylor (probably the best team try of the day), Jackson Bell scored his third and the man who started the try scoring also finished it as Brad grabbed his third for the day.
The final score was Dungog 56 Swansea 0.
Dungog has been starved of games over the past few weeks so this was a good hit out. Finals football will be completely different game as both sides will put it all on the line.
This was a solid performance from the Warriors who at times who quiet sharp in attack. The defence was caught out at times due to the unpredictable nature of the Swansea attack.
Best on the day for Dungog in the forwards were Brad Johnson (who was able to celebrate in style), Matt Hinton (who was able to play his best game of an interrupted season) and Kieran Hinton.
In the backs it was the wizardry of David Taylor that stood out.
RSL best forward and players’ player Brad Johnson, RSL best back David Taylor and Ray’s reserve Mark Johnston.
After the game at the RSL, club legend and Dungog football club committee member John Styles presented Brad Johnson with a commemorative plaque to mark his100th game.
Brad thanked several people including the club which has allowed him to accomplish this milestone.
Dungog now has next week off as they await the winner of the major semi-final.
The team is only one win away from a grand final birth and will need all the support they can get in two weeks time at Raymond Terrace.
