Raiders thump Thornton/Beresfield

26 May, 2010 05:00 AM
Stroud continued their un-beaten run with a comprehensive 52-10 win over an out-classed Thornton/Beresfield side.

While the score line would suggest a fairly easy afternoon for the Raiders, this wasn't the case as the Bears were certainly up for the game before their home crowd and really stuck it to the Raiders forwards.

The Raiders weathered the early punishment dished out, and gradually got on top to have a comfortable 24-6 lead at the break.

The second half was more of the same, with Stroud going on with the job and chalking up another impressive victory which would have pleased coach Joe Baker as well as all Stroud's loyal supporters whose support is much appreciated.

The only real bad news to come out of the game was an hamstring injury to in-form second rower Luke "Cat" Miller, whose dreams of an ironman trophy have been shattered.

He will now have to settle for a stickman award at best, given the history of the Cat with his hammies. A three-week stint on the sidelines is more than likely!

This game also saw the return of Todd Harvey, after 12 months out with a serious knee injury which required an operation and some intensive rehab (climbing ladders at work etc), slotted right back in like he never been away and will be a strike weapon for the Raiders over the course of the year.

Kyan Pannowitz finally made his debut after countless hearings and appeals, and from all reports impressed everyone with his enthusiasm and work rate playing in the back row.

Other players who stood out were full back Jamie Devereux, Jono Hayward up front and Ben Montford was his usual consistent self.

Lock Steve Holland was once again on fire, and for the third consecutive week got three points off the referee and has been accepted into the refs brotherhood after being on their most wanted list early in the season, well done Bulldog!

As you can tell this report is short on detail as once again being a second-hand account, no try scoring details, although Ringa was right on target in the goal kicking department, 8 goals from 9 attempts.
