Johnson to celebrate 100th game this weekend

28 Jul, 2010 04:49 PM
This Friday night against Cardiff at Bennett Park, Brad Johnson will complete a major milestone in Dungog football.

Brad will play his 100th game for the club and in doing so will achieve the rare double of 100 tries and 100 games that only some of the best players this have club has produced have matched.

I encourage everyone to get to Bennett Park this Friday to help celebrate.

The weekends game saw Dungog continue its march to the playoff with an unconvincing 20-18 win over Abermain.

The game was played with contrasting halves of football.

In what has become a trend in recent weeks Dungog has let teams back into the game after building big first half leads.

The first half was played at Dungog’s pace and resulted in several attacking raids on Abermain’s line.

Dungog scored three first half tries to Chris Nevin, Jackson Bell and Jake Clifton.

The half time score was 16 nil to Dungog.

The second half started poorly as Dungog continually gave opportunities to Abermain to attack Dungog’s line.

Abermain eventually cracked Dungog’s line on two occasions to bring the score back to 16-10.

An individual bit of brilliance from Lee Nevin created a try for Dungog to help give them what many thought would be a winning lead.

Abermain fought back again and had a shot to draw the game right on full-time.

They missed and Dungog escaped Abermain with the victory.

It was the first time all season that Abermain have been beaten at home so the victory shouldn’t be taken lightly.

One area for improvement that needs to be addressed by the Warriors is their goal line defence around the ruck.

It has lead to at least half a dozen tries over the last two weeks, but I’m sure coach Henderson will have it sorted in time for next weeks game.

Best on the day for Dungog were the Nevin brothers in the backs and in the forwards it was the two props, Terry Drinkwater and Dan Rumbel, who stood up as Dungog were missing four of their regular front rowers.

RSL best forward and players’ player Dan Rumbel. RSL best back Lee Nevin and Ray’s reserve Travis Crouch.
