Podium finish for Dungog Motorcycle Club

16 Dec, 2009 03:00 AM
Dungog Motorcycle club (DMCC) has won the Best Event of the Year at the NSW Enduro presentation held on the Central Coast recently.

DMCC hosted two of the 15 rounds contested in NSW this year and were voted first and third for their twioevents.

Motorcycle club president Trent Lean said this is huge achievement for a small club.

“All of our members have a passion for the sport and their contributions have made our two events an outstanding success,” he said.

Brad and Trent Lean were also honoured to receive the Sos Goddard perpetual trophy for contribution, commitment and passion for the sport of off-road racing in NSW.

Upon receiving the trophy Brad said it was an honour to see his and Trent’s name on the trophy with true legends of our sport like Geoff Ballard, Laurie Alderton and John Hall.

“It just caps off a fantastic year for us and the club,” he said.

Trent thought likewise and said “you do it for the love of the sport and to receive this award is incredible.”

Other DMCC members featured prominently on the night with junior and senior riders finishing on the podium.

Nick Lean finished second in both the sprint and cross country series behind new club member Mitch Kellner from Barrington.

“Mitch and I have had some great battles this year, but it seemed every time I’d get close to catching him he’d lift to the next level,” Nick said.

“We’re good mates and we train together a lot so it’s cool to both finish on the podium.”

Mitch and Nick also competed in the Australian Off Road Championships and finished first and secnd in that series.

“We had some junior club members, Scott Sullivan, Brad Redman, Jacob Peacock and Christian Clark compete in their first off road races this year and they all road extremely well,” Trent said.

“It’s exciting to have so many talented younger riders coming through the club and it was great to see Christian win the Off Road Imports Sportsmanship Award this year - he is a very deserved recipient.”

Senior riders who also finished on the podium were Luke Kellner, Meakan Kellner, Trent Lean, Steven Clarke and Peter Clark.

“Peter was the stand out rider this year,” Trent said.

“His second place finish in the Australian Off Road Championships and his first and second in the NSW based series are testament to his improvements this year.”

Peter’s only setback this season came at the final round at Inverell where a huge crash saw him taken to hospital with two broken wrists.

“This is not the way I wanted to finish the years racing,” Peter said, “but I suppose I’ve got time to get better for next years season opener in February.”

Gary Orchard and Luke Chant rode in the six rounds of the NSW enduro series with mixed results. They both enjoyed the racing with Gary stating the obvious “I think if I crashed less I’d have had a much better result.”

Micheal Charlton had a great Stadium Motocross Series as well, finishing third in the six-round series held in Mudgee.

Jarrod Daughtrey, Rob Francis and Brad Francis flew the club flag in the Hunter Valley Motocross series with great results coming their way.

Rob and Brad both finished on the podium and Jarrod received the Most Improved Rider award in his first year of racing.

Dungog Motorcycle Club had a very successful year.

“Congratulations to all members on their successes and thank you for your contribution in 2009.”
