Smith secures Shire Singles

05 Aug, 2009 05:00 AM
Graham Smith from Gresford Bowling Club played Alan Golledge of Dungog in the final of the Shire Singles on Sunday.

Smithy shot out of the blocks and at the seventh end the score was 14-2 his way.

The sun was belting down on both of them but Smithy took 15 ends of play to wrap it up.

So Graham is now the 2009 Shire Singles champion – we haven’t worked out the last time a player from Gresford won, and it was a great game to watch.

Some Shire Pairs games were played with Alan Golledge and Graham Smith backing up to play.

Next week will see the start of pairs semis, check your club notice boards for next draw.

This Saturday will see the usual social bowls played.

Last Tueday the clique boys had a run on the synthetic green, mixed reactions of course, but most were pretty pleased.

Last week had a phone call from a club official, answer is yes all the competitions from now on contain the interested players. Pommy Dave Turner.
