Larry Gorton will be taking home the major singles trophy from Clarence Town Bowling Club after an engrossing contest with John van Eyden.
It was a pleasure to mark this game and get a close-up of the pinpoint draws and conversions both produced.
In the end it was experience over natural ability, but well done to both players.
Any time you want to get serious about bowls John, I'm sure we can slot you into a skipper's job.
A somewhat less intense game was the Jane McGrath Foundation benefit - 16 bowlers wore pink and dug deep - all with the willing help of the Clarence Town Pharmacy and the Newcastle Permanent who donated trophies for the day.
It's wonderful how big-hearted our local businesses are.
Bowlers and bar flies contributed a total of nearly $500.
No wonder Claro's charity fund raising topped $16,000 in the last 12 months.
Thank you to all who participated.
And finally - all bowlers wish our long term bar attendant Mary Flanagan good luck as she moves on to the other end of town.
