A nice cool cloudy afternoon set the stage for a very anticipated first round of the season for the mighty all-age Boomerangs on Saturday.
The lads have been preparing for a total of eight weeks and have had two trial games during the preseason.
The team was finally going to find out if there training and trial games have paid off. At 2:15pm the whistle blew to get the game started.
As expected the Argenton team were very competitive, knocking the ball around very well and trying their best to open up the Boomerangs very solid defence.
Paul "Punter" Hunt found himself as new sweeper for the team, stepping into retired
veteran player John Levick’s position from last year.
Very big shoes to fill and Punter proved he was more than capable to handle the position with some very fine tackles and pin point passing.
Just nine minutes into the game the boomerangs were awarded a free kick from outside of the 18 yard box.
Punter Hunt took the free kick, firing a shot high into the back of the net and and opening up the Boomerangs scorecard for the year.
The Argenton sid,e after conceding a goal, came out attacking the Boomerangs defence. Yet again the boys were too strong in defence with Josh "Skindog" Skinner, Gav Duck and Jono Simmons making up the rest of the back line.
The boys were just too well composed and strong for the Argenton side.
The midfield consisted of Brett "Master" Bates, Jake "The Snake" Sutton, Martin "Marty" Moylan and Ewan Gibson.
They all managed to play some very strong football and controlled the midfield very well.
At half time the score was one goal to nil in favour of the boomerangs, A brief few words and thoughts were passed onto to lads by coach Paul French, manager Jason Marsh and also captain Brett Bates.
The Boomerangs came out firing at the start of the second half with an excellent
ball being passed through midfield finding its way into path of new gun striker Rodney Muddle, who from long range spotted the Argenton goal keeper off his line and chipped a ball over the top of him and into the back of the net.
This made the score 2-0.
Keegan Jones and Dale Longbottom were injected into the midfield showing so great passing ability and solid defence which helped the Boomerangs maintain the high intensity which the game was played at.
Another break was made with Rodney Muddle delivering a beautifully timed pass to last years golden boot winner Dylan "Patsy" Partyka who had no hesitation when he thumped the ball into the back net to deliver the final blow to Argenton.
The final score was 3-0 the Boomerang’s way.
Carl "Crazy" Baker had blinder of a game as goal keeper who kept the slate clean.
This was an absolute dream start to the season for the Boomerangs.
Paul "Punter" Hunter was awarder the players’ player award and Jono Simmons was awarded the best and fairest award.
Next week the Boomerangs take on South Wallsend at 1:45pm at Walker Field.
