Nationals beckon for local rider

12 Aug, 2009 05:00 AM
Lachlan Downes of Dungog has been chosen to represent NSW next year at the 2010 Polocrosse Nationals in Victoria.

Sixteen-year-old Lachlan has been playing polocrosse for the last three years for Maitland.

A great achievement for Lachlan was moving from the under-16 juniors to under-21 intermediates this year.

Lachlan will be playing in a mixed team consisting of four girls and four boys from all areas of NSW.

Lachlan’s dedication to the sport is apparent by the many hours spent in the saddle with a racquet in his hand.

The polocrosse season spans from March to September, when most weekends are spent competing at various carnivals throughout the state.

The sport is physically demanding on both horse and rider and both must be extremely fit.

The Nationals will be held in Ballarat in March.
