Great entertainment at Stroud Rodeo

23 Sep, 2009 05:00 AM
Stroud Rodeo president Jim Greenham has described the weekend’s event at “good, but not so good”.

Even though crowds were up on last year, Mr Greenham said the rodeo has not recovered from the Equine Influenza which hit three years ago.

“We were having bumper crowds up until them, but we just haven’t really recovered,” he said.

“But the rodeo ran really well and there was some great entertainment.

“There were good entries in most events with 49 competitors in the bull ride and 47 in the team roping.

“The campdrafting saw 625 entries over the two days.”

The event was pretty much incident free with only one minor injury in the campdrafting.

“However our rodeo clown Rodney Wybourne, who has been with us for 12 years, was unable to continue after he was injured with a hoof to his calf,” he said.

“It tore the muscle and he couldn’t keep going which was disappointing.”

Chris Lowe and Duncan Elks were the joint winners of the bull ride and Luke Morgan won the saddle bronc competition.

In the open for open campdraft Warwick Lawrence was first on Serena, a horse owned by Charlotte Lyon. Open campdraft winner was Rod Mooore on Red and Grant Watham won the novice draft riding Salute. In the maiden draft Jim Freeman was first on Sommett and Greg Cox won the encouragement riding Jeanie. Fosterton girl Lucy Neilson was the winner of the junior draft riding Destiny while Luke O’Brien won the juvenile on Candy Bar. Simone Harvey was first in the ladies campdraft riding Katie.
