A large crowd of parents, friends, special guests and loyal sponsors gathered together at Gresford Public School on Tuesday, December 13 to participate in the annual school presentation.
A highlight of the evening was the exceptional entertainment provided by the school ensemble led by principal Pauline Mitchell and assisted by teacher Shayne Taylor.
Another feature was a school signing choir facilitated by learning support officer Esther Isaac.
The principal, staff and students acknowledged the outstanding contribution by Dr Lesley Wright, who was recently awarded the NSW Government Science and Engineering prize for innovation in Science and Mathematics education.
This prestigious award was presented at Government House by the Governor Professor Maree Bashir and brings with it a $5000 grant to be used on scientific and mathematical education at Gresford Public School.
Dr Wright was given a gift voucher and flowers as an expression of thanks from the students who have benefited greatly from her scientific expertise throughout the year.
Floral arrangements were also presented as tokens of appreciation to school parents who have assisted with the musical development of students.
Sally Hunt, Megan Edwards and Sylvia Lawrence have all provided invaluable support to the ensemble and have freely given of their time.
MsTracey Kidd representing Heritage Motors presented the school with a $500 cheque which provides access to the very popular mathletics computer program.
The school P&C also provided funding to assist with this special project.
Gresford Public School was announced as the winner of the Newcastle National Video Festival ‘Best School Production’.
The trophies and $100 cheque were presented to Ziz O’Brien- Cavanough, editor and festival organiser of the Newcastle National Video Festival Ralf Jorg and president of the Newcastle Video and Moviemakers Incorporated Laurie Chesterfield.
The recipient of the coveted John Lill musical scholarship was Alex Butler.
John Lill, a world renowned pianist, with connections in the Hunter Valley, has dedicated funds to be allocated to a budding musician each year.
Gresford Public School would very much like to thank the many loyal and valued sponsors whose generosity provides trophies and book vouchers for worthy students.
