Stroud will celebrate the arrival of spring this year with a 100 Mile Picnic.
The community picnic, to be held in Allan Park in September, will replace the second 100 Mile Banquet originally planned for August at Riverwood Downs.
Allan Park is the community space earmarked for enhancement using profits from last year’s banquet.
Unforseen “life events” made it impossible to stage a full-scale event this year but organisers are keen to maintain the momentum established by the local “feast of all things local” held at Stroud Monastery.
“It really seemed to strike a chord with people,” Ms Thomas said.
“Everyone involved last year was so enthusiastic and keen for us to stage another banquet.”
“The feedback was amazing – people really embraced the idea of supporting and celebrating local produce.”
The lunch featured four courses of fresh, seasonal local produce gathered from within 100 miles (160km) of the village.
The event was organised and run entirely by a group of mums from Stroud Playgroup who raised more than $3,000 towards improving playground facilities in the community.
“While we are really disappointed that we have had to scale back our banquet plans, we’re confident that a community 100 Mile Picnic will be a fantastic alternative.”
More details of the event will be published in Stroud Stoppers in July.
