One step closer to community radio in Dungog

24 Feb, 2010 03:00 AM
Plans to start up a community radio station in Dungog are gaining momentum.

The proposed FM radio station will be known as Radio Dungog with the likely call sign of 107.9.

Committee member Ross Milford said the aim of this station is to provide a local broadcasting service to the communities in the Lower Hunter emanating from Dungog to include Gresford, Paterson, Clarence Town, Vacy, Stroud and other towns towards Singleton, Maitland and Gloucester.

“As we develop programming concepts initially we expect to provide a 15-hour service of live hosted radio seven days a week, plus a line service from 9pm to 6am daily,” Mr Milford said.

“So far we have assembled a committee and developed a great level of local interest together with the completion of a grant aimed at providing the initial funding for training, staff, equipment and rental costs for accommodation.

“Registration with the Department of Fair Trading is completed and research on the best available frequency has been completed.”

Committee members are seeking letters of support from the community as they proceed with the development and licensing necessary for the station.
