New refurbishments and extensions recently completed at St Joseph’s School in Dungog were officially opened on Friday.
Director of Catholic Schools Ray Collins was given the official honours in place of Senator Michael Forshaw who was unable to attend.
“In the last three years there have been significant developments at the school and today we celebrate further extensions and developments,” Mr Collins said.
“These came about from funding through the Federal Government’s Building Education Revolution (BER) and we are very grateful.
“Our diocese alone through the BER received $80 million and it was a God-send.
“A lot of schools were badly in need of work.
“The money could have gone into health or roads or infrastructure and no-one would have argued.
“But it went into education and we are very grateful for that.”
Federal Member for Paterson Bob Baldwin was glad to see the children getting the benefit of this.
“It is important our children are educated well,” he said.
“The future of our nation is our children and the values they bring forward with them.”
All the classroom were blessed with Holy Water by Father George and the children performed a number of songs.
Sr Ellen Rooyan representing the Sisters of St Joseph who commenced Catholic Education in this area, and the youngest student Gracie Bates were given the honour of cutting the celebratory cake.
