The tired old outdoor furniture at Lara’s aged care facility in Dungog has been given a new lease at life with a thorough facelift from volunteers at Dungog Menshed.
About 50 pieces of wooden outdoor furniture were sanded back and painted with two coats of outdoor paint over the last nine months.
Men shed member Bill Schuhmacher coordinated the project and was helped by other shed members.
“We just came up here and got a bit at a time, worked on it, then brought it back,” he said.
“We didn’t keep count, we just kept going until we were done.”
Lara Aged Care manager Kerrie Wagner said having the furniture brought up to good as new quality was a great boost for the residents.
“Some of it was in a very poor condition,” she said.
“It gives the residents somewhere to sit without catching their skin and clothes and the quality of the paint allows us to leave the furniture outside, so residents can sit out here when they want.”
Despite the fact that the chairs and tables were 10 to 15 years old, they were made of good quality materials.
“We just had to tighten a few screws here and there,” Mr Schuhmacher said.
“It was just a bit of wear and tear.
“In about five years time, they’ll need a light rub-down and another coat of this paint, but that will be all.”
