Organisers of the weekend’s brick and rolling pin throwing contest at Stroud are pleased the rain held off until the competition had finished.
However crowd numbers were down for the 51st event and committee member Joy Murray said they are at a loss to know why.
“I think that perhaps people just don’t have the money these days,” she said.
“They are putting it away, not spending it, saving it for down the track.
“But the parade was fantastic and there were some great floats which followed the theme of ‘the movies’.
“We were really pleased with the number of entries.”
The competition is an annual event held on the third Saturday in July between the four townships of Stroud in the world – England, America, Canada and Australia’s Stroud.
The day commences with a street procession through Stroud to the showground starting at 10.30am, where all festivities take place during the rest of the day.
Liam Speers from Clarence Town won the open brick competition followed by Darren Fiddes from Mayfield and Peter Gambriell from Gloucester.
In the open rolling pin throwing competition first place went to Rachel Evans from Beresfield, second was Karen Lauer from Junelli and third Sarah-Jane Eggins from Stroud.
