Gresford CWA member Valarie Smith has gone one step closer in qualifying for the Royal Easter Show.
The organisation held their annual The Land Cookery day last Wednesday with the Mrs Smith coming first with Judy Daly hot on her heels in second place in the fruit cake section.
Mrs Smith, who is also the association’s publicity officer, said entries in all categories were down because of the weather.
“There were quite a few members and other entrants who were cut off with flood water,” Mrs Smith said.
“But the quality of the entries was very good and it was very competitive in the fruit cake section.”
Betty Kelehear won the sultana cake section, Judy Daly won the butterscotch cake with Betty second and Valarie Smith won the tomato sauce.
First prizes in each section go onto group level at Singleton at the end of March.
The Land Cookery has been an association between the Country Women’s Association (CWA) and The Land Newspaper for 61 years.
The cookery contest is not restricted to members of the CWA , it is open to any person, male or female, residing in New South Wales.
Children are also eligible to enter.
