Three fresh-faced five-year-olds are among the many kindergarten children starting school today in Dungog.
Darcy Hill, Georgia Curry and Sam Turner were excited about their first day at school when they talked to the Chronicle last week.
While Darcy, who is the son of Andrew and Juliet Hill, is not really looking forward to the bookwork which will play a big part of his education, he is excited about making new friends.
“And I get to play on the playground equipment,” he said.
Darcy has his Ben 10 drink bottle already in his Chad Reed backpack and is looking forward to lots of nice things in his lunchbox.
However Georgia is not really sure what to expect at school.
“I haven’t been there before so I don’t know,” she said.
But the eldest born daughter of Zac and Jo Curry knows she will be having a ham sandwich for her lunch.
“And I will have an apple and banana too, and a water bottle,” she said.
Georgia already knows she will have fun at school and she can already write her name, count to 10 and read some books.
Sam Turner is looking forward to the smart board they have in the kindergarten room.
“When we came here with the preschool there were bubbles on it which went ‘pop’,” he said.
“Mum will pack my lunch for me and I will have honey and vegemite sandwiches and bananas, grapes and apples.
“I’ve also got a drink bottle in my lunchbox. My lunchbox is green and black with a bit of grey on it.”
Sam, who is the daughter of Ben and Barbara Turner, is very proud of the fact he can count to 109, write his own name and read books.
He lists his friends as Darcy Hill, Fraser Lovegrove, Jayden Berry and Eddie Crane who will be joining him at school.
See next week’s Chronicle for photos of the other kinder children starting at both Dungog Public School and St Joseph’s Primary School.
