There were tears and cheers as the 76 year 12 students from Dungog High finished their schooling careers on Friday.
A special ceremony at the school signaled the end of their formal schooling, with only the HSC exams to go before they step out into the big wide world.
“It’s an exciting time,” assistant principal Brad Dives said after the ceremony.
“Graduations are occasions when we reflect on what we have done but anticipate the future as well.”
There was plenty of emotion at the ceremony, especially towards the end when a group of year 12 students sang a “medley of memories” to end the proceedings.
Family, friends and the entire school community joined in the graduation celebrations, which also included the induction of new leaders for 2012.
“There were lots of speeches from the year 12 students as well as students from other years who shared their thoughts,” Mr Dives said.
“The students had so much input into the day and that’s something they can all be proud of.”
A slide show brought plenty of laughter as the students reflected on their time at Dungog High and a group of musicians inspired the audience with their range of talents.
“One of the nice things about our school is array of talented musicians we have,” Mr Dives said.
“It always amazes me how many of them who can sing, and sing very well too.”
Outside the school hall, the tears flowed as the students came together for hugs and photos.
The students will sit their HSC examinations between October 17 and November 11 before coming together for one final hurrah at their farewell dinner on November 24.
