Principal of Vacy Public School Kevin Greaves received an excellence in school leadership at last week’s Education Week awards.
Mr Greaves was honoured for his outstanding ability to involve the community in the school.
A school achievement award was presented to Gresford Public School for their scientists in schools program which provide an excellent and innovative approach to science education from kinder through to year 6.
The Planet Youth Mentoring Program at Dungog High School also received a school achievement award for fostering and maintaining positive relationships between students and adult community members.
Dungog Public School received a school achievement award for the Hunter Area Health speech pathology partnership program for the development of effective language programs K-2 to improve learning outcomes and meet student needs.
Excellence in teaching
A number of local teachers received excellence in teaching awards including Ashleigh Blayden from Clarence Town Public School for outstanding contribution to education programs and excellent leadership of the school PBL team.
Jenny Wellard of Dungog Public School was honoured for excellence in teaching and nurturing student growth in a caring environment.
Peter Holmes, Glenda Smith and Michelle Wilson of Dungog High School both received excellence awards.
Peter was nominated for outstanding leadership and mentoring of staff and students and is regarded as an excellent and committed teacher.
Ms Smith was awarded for 30 years of dedicated service to education as an outstanding teacher and highly respected colleague.
Ms Wilson was nominated for exemplary teaching and dedication to caring, committed support of students.
Community members recognised
A number of school community members were also recognised during Education Week.
Leasa Wallace of Glen William Public School was nominated for outstanding commitment and innovation in the delivery of physical exercise for students.
Gresford Public School nominated Dr Lesley Wright for commitment and dedication through involvement in the Scientists in Schools program.
Sue Campbell, a volunteer at Dungog Public School was honoured for continued support of school learning programs and a commitment to improving student achievement.
Rebecca Hawkins, who volunteers at Clarence Town Public School, was nominated for positive support of the school and on-going commitment to all school endeavours and programs.
And Lyn Lovegrove was thanked for outstanding support and dedication to Dungog schools over many years.
David Williams of Vacy was nominated by his local school for outstanding service to the school and community as president of the P & C and sesquicentenary committee.
Outstanding contributions
A number of non-teaching members of staff were also honoured.
Donna Griffith from Dungog Public School was nominated for her outstanding contribution to all facets of school life.
Gresford Public School’s Cyril Redhouse was nominated for his dedication and pride in the workplace.
Bev McKinnon was nominated by Clarence Town Public School for exemplary performance in her designated role as learning support officer.
Ivy Wilson from Dungog High School was honoured for 37 years of loyal service to education at Dungog High School.
Michelle Milburn for positive interpersonal skills to support student learning and welfare at Martins Creek Public School.

* Dean Hallinan from Vacy Public School for outstanding leadership, academic excellence, mentoring and exemplary service.

* Georgia Bannister from Clarence Town Public school for excellence in leadership and her contribution to the school’s core values.
* Alexie Newby from Dungog High School for excellence in academic achievement. An outstanding role model and a motivated, committed student.
* Melissa Nelson for consistent effort and outstanding representation of Dungog High School.
* Katie Ecimovic and Nikisha Cooper from Martins Creek Public School for excellent and caring leadership in a small school and kindergarten from year 6 classroom.
