Nine students received marks over 90 per cent in 14 subjects with Angela Reeves named dux for 2009.
Principal Maureen Jarvis said Angela Reeves, Sarah Rolfe, Clare Brorson, Kayla Kellner, Michelle Norris, Brigid O’Hara-Smith, Joshua Waters, David Woolley and Bethany Warland have achieved great success during their time at this school.
“They’ve aimed high, gone for it, and achieved it,” she said.
“They had a good idea where they wanted to go and worked hard to get there.
“These students knew what they needed to get in their exams to get there and have been outstanding students during their time at this school.
“They have brought a great deal of satisfaction to themselves, their families and their school.
Dux of the school Angela Reeves not only achieved marks over 90 in biology, English advanced, food technology and mathematics advanced, she was named second in the state for food technology.
Sarah Rolfe received marks over 90 in ancient history, biology and English advanced; David Woolley in ancient history and Joshua Waters in mathematics.
Clare Brorson, Michelle Norris, Dungog High School’s top achievers in last year’s Higher School Certificate were honoured at a special assembly last Wednesday.
Bethany Warland and Brigid O’Hara-Smith were tops in general mathematics and Kayla Kellner was exceptional in visual arts.
Angela has been accepted into nutrition and dietetics, Clare will study occupational therapy, Sarah is following her dream of speech pathology and Joshua is undertaking an engineering degree. All students are attending the University of Newcastle.
David is having a gap year before embarking on an arts degree through the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra in 2011 and Michelle has enrolled to study equine science at Charles Sturt University at Wagga Wagga and equine nursing through New England TAFE.
Kayla has enrolled at the Australian Beauty College at East Maitland and Bethany will study pyrotechnics with Foti Fireworks in Sydney.
