Dungog Showground could be the centre stage for an Australian feature film being produced next month.
The town has been chosen as one of the locations for filming “Tomorrow When the War Began” which is based on a story by Australian author John Marsden.
The film is based on the first of a series of seven books popular with teenage readers and have been studied regularly at both primary and junior secondary school level.
Dungog’s economic development officer Greg Fenwick said crew will be in town filming for two weeks from October 8.
“They are filming in Raymond Terrace from September 28 and then up to Dungog,” he said.
“A significant portion of the film will be shot at the showground which will set up as prisoner of war camp.
“There will gunfire, explosions and big trucks.
“Other sites for filming will include the council depot in Common Road, council administration offices in Dowling Street and exterior of the main street.”
The economic activity that may be generated in town during the period of filming will be significant.
“Cast and crew will be transported in 15-20 semi-trailers and up to 40 cars,” Mr Fenwick said.
Film extras are required for the film with an agency advertising in the August 19 and 26 editions of the Dungog Chronicle.
Fox Studios in Sydney will be the base for the production.
