Dungog High School students attended their first cattle judging competition for 2010 and brought back the Hunter River Super Show cattle clinic champion school trophy.
And from this event, two students have qualified to represent the Hunter River area at Sydney’s Royal Easter Show.
Agricultural teacher Alex Skladnev said this was the first judging competition for some of the students.
“All students contributed to the overall point score but it was Olivia Richardson from year 9 whose oral presentation put us into first place,” Mr Skladnev said.
“Olivia competed against senior students from other schools and her oral presentation was 10 points clear of the nearest score.
“Her talk was confident and she focused on describing the bulls for their reproductive purpose.”
The Maitland Show was also the qualifying event for cattle parading to represent zone 3 at the Sydney Royal.
Olivia Richardson was placed third in the 14-year age group, Karl Neilson was fifth in the 15-year age group and Annika Whale was third in the 16-years.
Annika and Olivia both qualified for the show which will be held from April 1-14.
The following students represented the school at Maitland Show: Year 7 – Mark Berry, Year 8 – Cheyanne Godfrey, Emily Gorton, Damien Hawes, Michelle Hovius, Lillian Hudson, Sarah McLaughlan, Jack Salter and Calvin Vogele.
Representatives from year 9 were Matthew Berry, Andrew Fitness, Tim McLaughlin, Liam Norris, Olivia Richardson and Nahuel Smith.
Year 10 representative was Karl Neilson while Eliza Gorton and Annika Whale represented year 11.
