A new exercise program aimed at preventing chronic disease is set to start in Dungog.
Heartmoves is a gentle physical activity program suitable for anyone who hasn't done any exercise in a while and is designed to be safe for people with stable long term health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes or obesity.
An information session about the new program will be held at 7pm next Monday at Dungog Community Hospital Day Centre.
Dungog community members are welcome to come along and learn more about the program, find out how to be involved and see some demonstrations.
Taking part in regular Heartmoves sessions can help lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol control, manage weight, improve well being and quality of life, manage diabetes, improve balance and flexibility, improve sleep, improve bone mineral density with arthritis management and prevent falls and injuries from falls.
The Heartmoves program will be run by Dungog enrolled nurse Charmain Bridge early next year.
Ms Bridge was recently accredited to run Heartmoves, and trained in managing safe, low to moderate intensity physical activity programs.
Ms Bridge said the program would help many Dungog people who wanted to begin leading a more active lifestyle.
“Most people are aware that regular physical activity is good for your health,” Ms Bridge said.
“This six-week program targets people in the community who want to focus on a healthy lifestyle and prevent chronic lifestyle related diseases such as heart attack, stroke and some cancers.
“Everyone is welcome to attend for an hour of gentle exercise and lots of fun.
“Anyone who comes along to the launch on Monday night receives their first class free.”
