The Land Cookery has been an association between the Country Women’s Association (CWA) and The Land Newspaper for 61 years.

The cookery contest is not restricted to members of the CWA , it is open to any person, male or female, residing in New South Wales.

Each entry at branch level costs 40 cents entry fee.

Gresford CWA cookery officer Dottie Hilliard said there are good cash prizes if an entrant reaches state level and receives first, second or third place.

“Cooking is to arrive at the CWA rooms in Durham Road, East Gresford, at 9am on Thursday, February 2,” Ms Hilliard said.

“Own recipes can be used.

“If you need a recipe or any details on the entries please call me on 4938 9483.”

Categories include boiled fruit cake, sultana cake (both in round or square 20cm tin, cake not to be trimmed), butterscotch cake (20cm tin, caramel icing on top), citrus sour cream cake (loaf tin un-iced) and boiled fruit pudding.

Mushrooms – six to be displayed, approximately 6cm across, dried apple chutney (presented in 375ml jars) and tomato sauce in 250ml sauce bottle.

In the 18 years and under age-group – meringues, approximately 4cm across, six displayed on board provided.

Twelve years and under – rock cakes, approximately 5cm across, six displayed on board provided.
